Gypsy Rose Lee and Dita Von Teese: Fabulous Forces of Burlesque

I have always loved the art of Burlesque and how it titillates the senses. And when the word Burlesque is said, two very prominent names come to mind; Gypsy Rose Lee and Dita Von Teese! These fabulous women are known for their wit, their beauty, and most importantly their style.

Rose Louise Hovick, better known as Gypsy Rose Lee, joined the ranks of burlesque after a grueling childhood career in vaudeville with her talented siblings and her controlling stage mother, Mama Rose. Burlesque was her way of breaking from her past and embrace a form of entertainment that really brought her true essence to life. She also changed it in ways one would never imagine with her sharp wit and her expensive couture taste that dazzled the world over. She has been immortalized in the theater with the award-winning show Gypsy and literature with not only her own best selling novels and memories but literally hundreds of different pieces written in her honor. The show Gypsy has also been made into several different film renditions as well as appearing herself in many movies and TV shows. The best of all is grande modern burlesque shows, one most famously done by Dita Von Teese, all honoring how forever fabulous she is!

Heather Sweet, know the world over as Dita Von Teese, was a small town ballerina with bigger than life dreams of glory through glamor. She yearned for the old world existence of her role models from vintage Hollywood and the elegance the exuded. The moment she stepped into the big city there was no stopping her. She reinvented herself in the world of fetish modeling, often drawing inspiration from women like Bettie Page. Then she does it once more by reigniting the world of Burlesque, drawing from the only inspiration to draw from; Gypsy Rose Lee! She has since launched various different clothing, lingerie, hair, and makeup collections along with appearing in many movies, music videos as well as being a best selling author. She is truly an unstoppable woman!

Empowered, confident, intelligent women are the sexiest women alive! What better way to celebrate it than to honor the goddesses of burlesque!

Who doesn’t love a good lingerie robe? It is not only soft and silky, but it is essential to complete your sexy boudoir look. And with so many different materials and colors to choose from mixing and matching make it that much more fun.

Silk and satin are classic and smooth no matter the occasion. A trim of lace adds a delicate touch to your look. It hangs beautifully on every curve and allows for simple mobility to be simply sexy.

dec_border

Fur is fabulous and always soft to the skin. It is chic and sexy and begs to be touched often. When paired with chiffon the look achieves a certain elegance for your bedroom antics.

Lace on every lady is luxurious. Satin, fur lined or not, full length or temptingly short? No matter what lace makes the occasion exquisite, the body more alluring and leaves the eyes wanting more.

Floral prints are delicate, colorful and vibrant and ideal for such a personality. More amazing is how many fabrics and designs the floral print comes. Silk and lace with such styles as Japanese kimono and velvet embroidered there is no way to go wrong with such versatility.

Cozy can be so sexy and you can’t have cozy without cotton. It’s perfect for mixing and matching with all styles, fabrics, and colors. Feel fuzzy and warm while feeling sensual. It will leave you never wanting to leave your bedroom.

From sexy to chic, furry to cozy, soft, smooth, silky and every inch lovely. Wrap beauty around you and embrace it from head to toe.

Vintage never goes out of style, especially in the boudoir. And capturing this sexy elegance in a photo is as old as photography itself. And to look sexy for your love is even older. As old as time. The evolution of these delicate undergarments have a long history, but styles are often repeated and made better through the ages. As times change and needs of the boudoir do, so to must lingerie.

Victorians were not as stuck up as one would think. They knew how to have fun and dress for the occasion, even in private. For the modern Victorian look a touch of lace here, a neck-full of pearls there and a breathtaking corset is all you need

By the 1920’s women were not only politically free but a little more sexually free and their less constricting often more revealing lingerie was a sign of the times. Even the music in the bedroom became more exciting with Jazz.

As Hollywood grew in popularity so did the need for looking like a star in the bedroom. Even with WWII taking all the silk, that didn’t stop the ladies from wearing the most glamorous looks! (Thank You Nylon)

Can you imagine the 1950’s being sexy? Well, the truth is some of the sexiest styles we still use today came from the 1950’s. It has become the most copied look for vintage lingerie.

So if you feel like you were born in the wrong era…there’s lingerie for that!

Pieces of Him | San Jose Los Gatos Bay Area Boudoir Photography

Trying to think of a way to make your photoshoot with Boudoir Coterie more intimate? Try adding a little piece of him to the shoot. Some clients have chosen this simple
method and the results are always stunning. One way to wow him is as easy as walking to his part of the closet and as sensual as putting on his favorite dress shirt. Use the smell of him to inspire you during your session.

dec_border

Miss J exudes comfort and passion with mixing and matching: a soft dress shirt of his and touch of her with a perfect lingerie set. You can almost feel him inspiring her as she caresses the fabric. His essence allows her to feel more comfortable in the moment and free to show how sexy he makes her feel.

Another way to spice it up is with an object of sentimental value. This is a great way to add him to your photo shoot and it gives him a complete shot of everything he loves. Miss S is rocking out her session with her husband’s awesome guitar. This is one of the sexiest examples of heating up a photo shoot with a little piece of him.

dec_border

Need just one more idea? Think of something you both love together: something that makes you laugh together or even something you play together. Miss A is making it slightly more personal by adding items intended as an inside joke. They may live busy lives but they find a way to laugh at these everyday items. Miss V is representing a common love she and her husband have for volleyball. When you work up a sweat together you stay together and always know how to have fun.

During the reveal, you’ll instantly be brought back to when it all began. Sometimes it is that simple to make him see the real you: the real sexy you!

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but swimsuit season is right around the corner. Today I wanted to highlight swimsuits. Recently in the news there has been some praise for Target for using plus size models in their swimsuit campaigns. I wanted to share some of their plus size suits I found online.

I love Target. It’s convenient, there’s one on every corner, and they have cute stuff. I enjoy featuring things that you can get locally; that when you see it you can go to your local store and try it on for yourself. So please, if you see something here today that you like, see if your local store has it and go try it on! Take a few sizes into the fitting room with you as every clothing manufacturer cuts their sizes differently.

First off I’ll show you some one pieces. Not everyone is comfortable in a bikini or tankini, so these suits are for you if you are more comfortable in a 1 piece.

plus size 1 piece

If there’s one thing that you should have learned by now from me, it’s about adding detail to your look. I love these suits above for their detail. The white crocheting around the bust is amazing. The black crochet and the straps of the top suit add that little bit extra, and I love the contrast of the solid black and the summery pattern in the left photo.
Ok, so what if a 2 piece is your style, but you prefer a tankini 2 piece rather than a bikini? Of course I’ve got you covered there as well.
plus size tankini

Summery colors, halter type straps, flowy comfortable fabric, and some extra glitz are why I chose these tankinis. I like that you can mix and match these pieces. There are many different styles of bottoms to choose from so you really can pick your own style and make it unique.
And for those that prefer a bikini, here’s my choices for you.
plus size 2 piece

The back of the top bikini?!!! Wow I love it. Again it’s just that little detail that really makes an outfit and a bathing suit is no different. I love the tropical print of the left suit and the contrast of the two different patterns of the right suit.
Most of us loath this upcoming swimsuit season, but get out there and try some different patterns on! Finding one that fits well, no matter what the size says on the label, will make you feel more comfortable. And finding one that is cute just adds to that!
What’s your favorite of the suits today? Do you prefer a patterned swimsuit or a solid color? Bikini, tankini or one piece?

I enjoy seeing what the current styles and trends are, not that I necessarily follow them. I’m very much a jeans and t-shirt girl, but today I’ve found a hot trend that I think I can pull off these upcoming warmer months.

Sneakers and a dress.

This ultra casual but still put together look screams comfort, but not wanting to wear your everyday jeans. There are so. many different ways to wear this trend too. See what I’ve found.

Sporty Chic

Summer

You can easily pair a maxi dress with some canvas sneakers for a casual put together summer look.
Maybe you’re the type of person who likes to add a pop of color to your outfit, well I’ve got you covered there! Do it with your shoes.

Summer Night

Looking for an even more laid back look? Try pairing your cotton dress with some slip on sneakers.

Maybe none of these suit you, and that’s ok. Let me show you one more idea.

I think this is probably my favorite look. Makes me want to get a pair of black sneakers to pair with my black cotton dresses!
How do you like this style ladies? Is this something that you have worn in the past or can see yourself wearing this summer? How would you wear it?

We are officially in Spring and one spring trend I keep seeing around is colored denim. I love all the different colors and hues and colored denim can be very versatile in how you wear it. Today I’m going to show some different ways to wear colored denim.

Let’s start off with a gorgeous Spring color, Pink.

Untitled #1369

This beautiful dusty rose colored denim looks great paired with a soft pink blouse and a traditional blue denim jacket. And the dusty rose colored shoes really complete this look.
Of course there is always the soft, baby pink colored denim.
Spring Trend: Colored Denim

I love this soft color paired with this perfect Spring top. The color of the purse and the jeweled sandals complete this look.
This color also looks great paired with a white top.
Denim color pastel

With this outfit I would probably go with a different shoe, something strappy and fun.
Another gorgeous Spring color for denim is green. Beautiful Spring green obviously! I love this color, and pairing with a striped top is a perfect option.
color green

Green denim looks great paired with this blue blazer too!
Colored Denim

Coral is another fantastic color choice and is easy to pair with a variety of floral spring tops.
Spring Trend: Colored Denim

Spring doesn’t always have to be about soft, pastel colors though. This bold colored outfit is still a great option for Spring, and for colored denim.
Spring Trend: Colored Denim

Do you have any colored denim in your closet? What colors are they? What do you pair them with? Does this help you with new ways to wear colored denim? I look forward to hearing from you!
