Trying New Things | San Jose & San Francisco Bay Area Boudoir

I finally got to play!

I will admit that at any given time I have 10-20 creative ideas running around my head in hopes to try, experiment and play. Unfortunately not only does running my own business keep me occupied but so do my two young boys and then on top of that– I live with a chronic illness that seems to suck any remaining energy dry. It can be very frustrating so sometime when an opportunity arises, and in this case, a free day to shoot, I grabbed it!

As some of you may know, I did not do a 2014 Coterie Girl search.. mostly because finding the time to work with my 2013 spokes model was challenging and I knew I wanted to get her in the studio a couple more times this year. Last week we did just that and I finally got to play with my Vintage 8MM Video app. The always lovely Kristina, was a great sport and I am so excited with the results! This video and these images were shot in about 15 minutes, no joke(I’m adding that tidbit of info in for those of you who think that a 20 minute Petite session might not be enough time for beautiful images… it IS!).

So without further adieu, here is my very first little promo video… a Coterie “commercial” if you will. Hehehe…

I LOVE that last shot… it was a quick experiment with a Kleenex and hair tie around my lens. Tushy Tuesday and uh… Yelp Deal?! | San Jose Boudoir Photographer

Fashion Friday Summer Brights from Agent Provocateur | San Jose Boudoir Photography

Â I’ve been meaning to feature Agent Provocateur for a while now, so I decided to do a little browsing over there today. I was totally planning to feature some classic pieces in black and other neutrals, but I was really struck by their bright summer collections!

While I usually prefer lingerie thatâ€™s a little more timeless and classic, I think itâ€™s good to have a little more fun once in a while — and summer is a great time to do that.

Thereâ€™s no denying it — Agent Provacateur is expensive, but theyâ€™re known for their unique and beautiful styles and are totally worth it if you’ve got the spare cash.

Also, while itâ€™s totally not necessary to spend a lot of money on outfits for a boudoir photo shoot, if you want to spend a little more on some really special pieces, a boudoir photo shoot is the best time to do so.

If you think about it, you probably wear most special lingerie for a few minutes, and then it gets tucked away in a drawer and often forgotten. If you wear something for a boudoir session, youâ€™ll have photos to cherish forever, whether you wear the item again or not.

Now it’s time for a few my favorites from Agent Provocateur’s summer collection.

I’m not sure I could pull off bright lime green with my pasty skin, but for those of you who can, how fun is the Brittnie collection?

Lime green definitely isn’t for everyone, but Agent Provocateur’s summer collection has a bunch of different brights, so there’s something for all skin tones. Check out this gorgeous grape number from the Janet line.

If you don’t want to commit to a fully bright ensemble, the Petunia collection is mostly black with a few bright details.

Last but not least, one of my favorite summer colors – turquoise! This color reminds me of blue skies and tropical beaches, and is flattering on so many skin tones. The beautiful LavelleÂ collection has some fun peek-a-boo details and bright pink accents.

Picking A Favorite | Santa Cruz Boudoir Photographer

Last week I had a consultation in my studio and after the the lovely young bride to be booked, she asked me which image on my wall was my favorite. I hadn’t given it much thought and quickly pointed “I think THIS one, no wait, THIS one…” and as my eye went from one image to the next they each stood out to me and that was when I realized they were all my favorites but for different reasons. I told her a little about each woman on my wall and why that session was special to me. I know that might sound silly and until that moment I had never consciously thought about my true connection with each woman who walks through my door and how much THEY have affected ME. I could tell you something about each woman who has stepped in from of my camera, some thing funny, something touching and often, something personal about who they are and why they came to me.

The reality is that I don’t actually spend much time with each client but I feel like I do because I am looking at their images for hours at a time, often chuckling about something that was said or done during the session or touched by something she confided in me and I realized that there is so much more to this “job”, this business, that I work so hard a running. I love my job and I have known and expressed that for a long time. So do I have a favorite image? Yes, I have a favorite image from every single session I have shot and to try and pick just one… well, I simply couldn’t do it!

This is the lovely Miss S, she was fun and witty and over all– fantastic! We talked about wine and she told me about a vineyard she had visited that names each wine something clever and witty with a funny description and we laughed about them. It made me want to go there, and hopefully I will someday. Then to make it even more special, she surprised me with a bottle when she picked up her album. It was so sweet and thoughtful and just one more reason why I feel a connection with so many of my clients.

Miss S is a gorgeous lady and like so many others, rocked her session. Her confidence radiates and each time I scroll through her images I change my mind on which image is my favorite. LOL. So I am just going to show you a whole bunch. Truthfully there are many more too, but we have to keep some private. 😉

Fashion Friday Ampere Lingerie | San Jose Boudoir Photography

Happy Friday, everyone!

Itâ€™s been more than a few weeks since Iâ€™ve talked about lingerie here, so itâ€™s about high time to get back to that. I hope you enjoyed a few other fun diversions in the meantime.

I was pondering what I wanted to cover this week when I came across a post in my Facebook feed about an event featuring Ampere lingerie.

Iâ€™ve never heard of Ampere lingerie before so I decided to check it out. As it turns out, Iâ€™m just a few Facebook friends removed from one of the founders.

Ampere is a relatively new and small line of lingerie that features a few classic (and beautiful) staples, but there are a few special features which I think make them really unique.

Correct fit is one of the major focuses of Ampere Lingerie, which is currently only available online. To ensure the best fit possible, Ampere offers 28 different bra sizes and free shipping and returns. Whatâ€™s even better is that with each bra order they send you a few sizes to try, so you can keep the one that fits best and return the others free of charge. Pretty neat if you ask me.

The bras are a bit pricey (about $95), but they are made from high quality materials and every bra purchase comes with a free panty (why doesnâ€™t everyone do this?).

I feel like I say it a lot about lingerie I feature on Fashion Friday, but I really like how classic and pretty their styles are. While the colors and silhouettes are rather basic, the details make each of these pieces truly special and definitely boudoir worthy.

Unfortunately I donâ€™t have $95 laying around in bra-money right now, but next time I do, I might just have to give one of these a try!

Fashion Friday Dita Von Teese | San Jose Boudoir Photography

I Â have to admit, I didnâ€™t know a whole lot about Dita Von Teese other than that she was once married to Marilyn Manson and is often seen showing off her curves in sexy lingerie, but when Danea told me about her new line at Bloomingdale’s, I decided it was time to find out more.

From my quick Wikipedia research, Dita Von Teese (born Heather Renne Sweet) is most famous for re-popularizing burlesque performance, and is also a model, actress and entrepreneur.

Her most recent entrepreneurial endeavor is her Bloomingdale’s lingerie line, and I have to say, it is gorgeous!

Unfortunately, I havenâ€™t had a chance to actually check any of these out in person since the closest Bloomingdales is a bit of a trek from my house, but based on the reviews on their site, Ditaâ€™s line is not only gorgeous, but also good quality (as Iâ€™d expect from Bloomingdaleâ€™s).

This collection definitely has a lot of burlesque influence and is classically sexy. I really like how black lace seems to be the uniting element, but it’s accented with pops of color and other unique details. Here are a few of my favorites:

What I really love about Ditaâ€™s lingerie is that itâ€™s all timeless, which is especially important when youâ€™re planning a photo session. No one wants to look back at what they were wearing in a few years and wonder â€œwhat was I thinking?â€

Although red isn’t always advised for boudoir sessions, this set is gorgeous. Check out the details on the bra!

And then there’s these panties! Is it weird that I wish they could show the back of these panties on a model? I guess it wouldn’t be appropriate for the Bloomingdale’s website, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this photo is not even close to doing them justice.

Fashion Friday Behind the Scenes | San Jose Boudoir Photographer

Friday already? Where did this week go?

I was browsing the Anthropolgie website while trying to come up with ideas for this weekâ€™s post, when I found this gorgeous pajama set (pictured in the graphic below). I quickly saved it to Pinterest (my birthday is coming after all) and moved along.

Still stuck on ideas, I decided to check out lingerie on Pinterest, and came across a cute lace racerback bra that I see getting re-pinned quite often. Thatâ€™s when it hit me — what did the cute PJ set and this lacy bra have in common — they are both pretty from all angles!

Let’s face it, most of the time we focus on what we can easily see in the mirror, and forget about the other side. Â I know Danea features some fabulous tushies every Tuesday around here, but what about the rest of the back side? Itâ€™s not just all about the booty!

I love the simplicity of a gorgeous back shot. While a woman’s back is totally sexy on it’s own, sometimes it’s nice to add some pretty lingerie to accentuate it even more.

Hereâ€™s some lingerie that’s eye catching from all angles:

I’m really loving this sleep set from Anthropologie because it’s totally sexy, but looks really comfortable for every-day wear. That gives it an A+ in my book. You could also swap out the bottom for a black lacy boy short for a different kind of look.
